Product Description

Add a charming miniature cactus to your collection with Frailea, a distinctive South American cactus genus known for its tiny size, rounded shape and subtle natural colouring.

Frailea plants usually develop a globular to slightly flattened body with clearly defined ribs and small areoles. Depending on the species and growing conditions, the plant may appear green, olive, bronze, reddish-brown or chestnut coloured. Its fine spines generally remain close to the body, giving it a neat and compact appearance.

This cactus grows slowly and remains very small, making it ideal for limited spaces, miniature plant arrangements, office desks, windowsills and collector displays. Mature plants may produce bright yellow flowers that can look surprisingly large compared with the cactus itself. In some Frailea species, flowers may remain closed while still producing seeds.

Place Frailea in bright light with gentle morning sunlight. Protect it from extreme afternoon heat, particularly during Pakistan’s hottest months, because its small body can scorch or dry out more quickly than larger cacti.

Use a loose, highly mineral cactus mix with excellent drainage. During active growth, water carefully after the soil has dried. Avoid leaving it completely dry for extended periods during intense summer heat, but never allow the roots to remain wet. Keep the plant mostly dry during winter.

Frailea is native to parts of South America, with species occurring across areas including Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina and Bolivia. Exact appearance can vary because Frailea refers to a genus rather than one individual species.
