Monstera Deliciosa – Swiss Cheese Plant

Monstera deliciosa is one of the world’s most recognisable tropical houseplants. Commonly called the Swiss Cheese Plant, it is admired for its large, glossy, heart-shaped foliage that develops dramatic splits and natural openings as the plant grows.

Its bold architectural leaves make Monstera an excellent statement plant for living rooms, offices, reception areas, covered verandas and bright entrance spaces. It can also be incorporated into sheltered outdoor landscaping where it receives filtered light and protection from Pakistan’s intense afternoon sun.

Young Monstera leaves are often solid and heart-shaped. The characteristic holes and splits, called fenestrations, become more prominent as the plant matures and receives suitable light, moisture and climbing support. A moss pole, coir pole or wooden support helps the plant grow upright and produce larger foliage.

Monstera prefers bright indirect light and a loose, well-draining potting mixture. Water thoroughly when the upper layer of soil begins to dry, allowing excess water to drain completely. Avoid keeping the roots permanently wet because overwatering can cause yellow leaves and root problems.
